The Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme was launched in June–July 2024 with the goal of providing ₹1500 monthly financial assistance to economically vulnerable women in Maharashtra and strengthening their financial independence.
Initial Eligibility Criteria (June 2024)
When the scheme was first introduced, the following basic conditions were required:
- Woman beneficiary must be 21 to 65 years old
- Must be a resident of Maharashtra
- Annual family income below ₹2.50 lakh
- Aadhaar-linked bank account required
- Applicant should not receive ₹1500 or more monthly from another scheme
Operational Changes (July 2024)
In July 2024, detailed guidelines were introduced to improve the implementation of the scheme.
- Stricter document verification (Aadhaar, domicile, birth proof, income proof)
- Women receiving similar benefits were filtered out during verification
- Taluka and Ward Committees introduced for local verification
- District and State level committees created for final approval
