Eligibility Criteria

Evolution of Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme (2024)

The Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme was launched in June–July 2024 with the goal of providing ₹1500 monthly financial assistance to economically vulnerable women in Maharashtra and strengthening their financial independence.

Initial Eligibility Criteria (June 2024)

When the scheme was first introduced, the following basic conditions were required:

  • Woman beneficiary must be 21 to 65 years old
  • Must be a resident of Maharashtra
  • Annual family income below ₹2.50 lakh
  • Aadhaar-linked bank account required
  • Applicant should not receive ₹1500 or more monthly from another scheme
Applications were mainly accepted through the Nari Shakti Doot Mobile App with assistance from Anganwadi workers and local help centers.

Operational Changes (July 2024)

In July 2024, detailed guidelines were introduced to improve the implementation of the scheme.

  • Stricter document verification (Aadhaar, domicile, birth proof, income proof)
  • Women receiving similar benefits were filtered out during verification
  • Taluka and Ward Committees introduced for local verification
  • District and State level committees created for final approval
This phase also began data cleansing, removing duplicate and ineligible applications.

Three-Level Selection Process

By late July 2024, a structured verification system was implemented.

Local Verification
Ward / Taluka level document verification
District Approval
District committee checks and approves list
State Confirmation
Final beneficiary list approved at state level

Applicants exceeding income limits, lacking valid documents, or receiving other benefits were removed during verification.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

Only Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts are accepted for receiving the monthly financial assistance.

Summary

The scheme evolved from a broad launch in June 2024 to a more strictly monitored system by July 2024. Multiple verification layers were introduced to ensure that financial benefits reach only genuinely eligible women.
